Strokkur (Icelandic for "churn") is a fountain geysir located in a geothermal area beside the Hvítá River in Iceland in the southwest part of the country, east of Reykjavík.[1] It is one of Iceland's most famous geysers, erupting once every 6–10 minutes.[2] Its usual height is 15–20 m, although it can sometimes erupt up to 40 m high.

The geysirs in Haukadalur are situated in an active geothermal area. Due to underground plumbing system ground water comes into contact with hot bedrock and heats up, building pressure. When the water has reached peak temperature and pressure it sprouts out from the geyser, often up to 30m into the air.
